Mauna Loa Solar Observatory
The Mauna Loas Solar Observatory (MLSO), operated by the High Altitude Observatory in Boulder Colorado, houses several instruments designed to observe the sun at several wavelengths. The MLSO instrument provide observations needed to understand the sun's continuos release of plasma and energy into interplanetary space.

MK3 White Light pB Data (Polar Coords)
MK3 White Light pB Data (Polar Coords)
MK3_CPB
These images are in polar coordinates and are ideal for
azimuthal and radial scans. Polarization Brightness
data are required for measuring coronal densities
and computing masses.
CHIP
This is the ACOS CHIP Helium I 1083 nm intensity data
taken every three minutes at MLSO. Provides a good
indication of large scale structure of upper chromosphere
and corona including active regions, prominences and
filaments, coronal holes, filament channels, etc.
CHIP_INT
CHIP He 1083 nm Intensity
CHIP He 1083 nm Intensity
CHIP He 1083 nm Velocity
This is ACOS CHIP Helium 1083 nm Velocity Data.
Together with CHIP Intensity Data, this dataset
provides a good view of activity in the upper
chromosphere region, particularly prominence and
filament activity and eruptions. This data is
taken every three minutes.
CHIP He 1083 nm Velocity
CHIP_VEL
Helium-I (1083 nm) images, collected with the Chromospheric Helium-I Imaging Photometer since April, 1996.

PICS H-Alpha Disk (Dark corrected)
PICS H-Alpha disk data provides a good view into
prominence and filament activity and eruptions,
as well as flare activity. These images are taken
every three minutes and have had minimal processing
done. Only a dark subtraction and hot pixel cleanup
has been done on these images.
These images have not been rotated for p-angle.
PICS_ASC
PICS H-Alpha Disk (Dark corrected)
PICS H-Alpha limb data provide views of solar
limb activity by occulting the solar disk. These
data are taken every three minutes. No processing
is done on these data.
These images have not been rotated for p-angle.
PICS_LIMB
PICS H-Alpha Limb
PICS H-Alpha Limb
H-alpha disk and limb images. The original Prominence Monitor (PM) was installed in February, 1980. In February, 1994, it was upgraded to become the Digital Prominence Monitor (DPM) by replacing a 35mm film camera with a high resolution (1534x1030 pixel) CCD camera. The Polarimeter for Inner Coronal Studies (PICS) instrument replaced the DPM instrument in September, 1997.

dpm
H-alpha prominence and solar disk monitor
PICS H-Alpha Disk
PICS_DISK
PICS H-Alpha Disk
PICS H-Alpha disk data provides a good view into
prominence and filament activity and eruptions,
as well as flare activity. These images are taken
every three minutes and have had a limb darkening
correction applied as well as some contrast enhancement.

MK3_RPB
MK3 White Light pB Data (Rectangular Coords)
These images are identical to the MKIV pB data in polar
coordinates, except for the coordinate system.
Polarization Brightness data are required for
measuring coronal densities and computing masses.
These images are in rectangular coordinates.
MK3 White Light pB Data (Rectangular Coords)
K-Corona images in white light polarization brightness (pB).
Mark-III (Feb 1980 - Sep 1999) has now been replaced by the Mark-IV
Qualitative white light coronal images. These images
have had an artificial vignetting function applied which
reduces the radial density gradient in order to enhance
contrast. These images are in no quantitative units.
They are useful for viewing activity and making
position measurements. The jpegs are made
from these images.
MK3 White Light Vignetted Data (Rectangular Coords)
MK3_RPB_VIG
MK3 White Light Vignetted Data (Rectangular Coords)
MK4_RPB_VIG
Qualitative white light coronal images. These images
have had an artificial vignetting function applied which
reduces the radial density gradient in order to enhance
contrast. These images are in no quantitative units.
They are useful for viewing activity and making
position measurements. The jpegs are made
from these images.

MKIV White Light Vignetted Data (Rectangular Coords)
MKIV White Light pB Data (Polar Coords)
MKIV White Light pB Data (Polar Coords)
These images are in polar coordinates and are ideal for
azimuthal and radial scans. Polarization Brightness
data are required for measuring coronal densities
and computing masses.
MK4_CPB
MK4_RPB
MKIV White Light pB Data (Rectangular Coords)
These images are identical to the MKIV pB data in polar
coordinates, except for the coordinate system.
Polarization Brightness data are required for
measuring coronal densities and computing masses.
These images are in rectangular coordinates.
MKIV White Light pB Data (Rectangular Coords)
MK4-K Coronameter
mk4
K-Corona images in white light polarization brightness (pB) (Sep 2000- present) of the
solar corona from 1.12 to 2.79 solar radii.
